Egypt's Window Dressing

CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
Shaar Hashamayim Synagogue
On Cairo's Adly Street
Tuesday 30 October 2007

A Wake - with a very few hand selected invitees. centennial celebration October 2007

A propaganda campaign spearheaded by the Egyptian Government.

Egyptian Jewry recognizes those campaigns very well. We know very well the manipulation and exploitation methods employed by the Egyptian Government. – make a big deal of nothing - These will no longer work with us.

All of our synagogues and institutions are in need of repair badly. Making a big commotion over one synagogue does not appease the Jews from Egypt.

Please stop talking about establishing a Museum.! A Musuem is for King Tut and the pyramids, not for a thriving society

 Retour au Caire

 23 October 2007

I saw the signs of your Islamisation without concession

But could not cry

I saw your Pyramids, your noseless Sphinx staring at me

But did not cry

I saw your veiled young women wondering who I was

But did not cry

I saw your lunatic traffic and crossed at the peril of my life

But did not cry

I saw your indestructible lions guarding that bridge so often crossed

But did not cry

I saw Groppi, à l'Américaine and my Extaday Hotel

But even then I did not cry

I saw my street, my house, its shuttered balcony

But still I did not cry

I saw the Bawab, told him I had lived there 50 years ago

But did not want to cry

I saw my empty Synagogue well guarded by numerous Shawish

Then the tears gushed forward!

j'ai revu ton islamisation incontournable et definitive

Mais je n'ai pas pleuré
j'ai revu tes Pyramides, ton Sphynx défiguré immuable

Mais je n'ai pas pleuré

J'ai revu tes lions qui gardent le pont jadis traversé

Mais je n'ai pas pleuré

J'ai revu tes femmes voilées insouciantes me regardant
